Don't lose your Bridesmaids over a dress!
It's wedding season! For the single girl in her 20s, this time of year can be expensive. Not only do bridesmaids have the normal expenses of attending a wedding (driving, lodging, gift), but she will also be expected to help with (and pay for) the bridal shower, the bridesmaid's dress, and whatever else the bride needs at the last second.
Being a bridesmaid is a big committment, even for a best friend.
Of course, there are ways to make this job more sensible for you and your bridesmaids::
-The dress--> I am amazed at how many GREAT dresses I ran into recently at Target, The Gap, Wet Seal, and beyond! Several dresses were around $30, and none of my favorites topped $80. And ALL of the dresses could be worn again and again without a problem. If you can't find these so-called GREAT dresses I'm talking about, try these same stores online. Most of their websites carry more sizes and colors (and styles, too!) than their stores. I recommend finding cute dresses before settling on your wedding colors. It's easier to work in THAT direction!!
-Rent it--> Some wedding chapels carry an assortment of dresses, including bridesmaids dresses. If you have a small bridal party (one or two bridesmaids) it may be possible to fit your ladies with a rental gown!
-Wedding Uniform?--> A poll in one of those girly magazines gave a big thumbs up to letting your bridesmaids choose their own dress. Of course, you can keep some control over it by giving them color and cut guidelines. And, you always get the final say (make sure you make that clear!).
-Bringing it together--> To keep your ladies looking good together use matching bouquets, a matching scarf/shawl, and matching necklaces.
It's your wedding. Make it fun; make it make sense!
Thanks to the Antique Angel Wedding Chapel of Reno, NV for these excellent ideas about Bridesmaids Dresses.
